Senior Web Developer

Location: Battle Creek, MI

Note: This position is contingent upon contract award. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens and able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance for this role. While our company operates as a remote-first organization, this position requires hybrid onsite work in Battle Creek, Michigan for the duration of this contract.

Position Summary:

Position Summary

The Senior Web Developer / Engineer is responsible for the design, development, deployment, and sustainment of secure, high-performance web applications supporting mission-critical systems. This role performs full lifecycle software engineering activities in compliance with government security, audit, and operational requirements. The developer works independently with minimal supervision, interfaces directly with customers to define requirements, and provides technical leadership within cross-functional development teams operating in Agile and DevSecOps environments.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Web Application Design and Development

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable, client/server-based web applications.
  • Design and develop web pages and port legacy or client/server applications to modern web-based interfaces.
  • Lead application development using technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, C#.Net, Java, XML, PERL, Apache, and modern web frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices to support application integration.
  • Design and manage database schemas and data access using SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Azure SQL, and related platforms.
  • Integrate applications with complex legacy systems, mainframes, and cloud environments including Azure GovCloud and AWS GovCloud where authorized.

Full Software Development Lifecycle

  • Perform all phases of the software development lifecycle including requirements analysis, system design, coding, testing, deployment, sustainment, and defect remediation.
  • Provide expert-level software testing, validation, and documentation, including mobile code (iOS and Android), C#.Net applications, and backend services.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues impacting availability, performance, and security of production systems.

Security, Compliance, and Audit Support

  • Apply secure coding practices in accordance with DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), RMF, FISMA, and DoD Impact Level (IL) requirements.
  • Support compliance audits, security reviews, and vulnerability remediation activities.
  • Ensure applications meet all applicable government security, privacy, and data protection requirements.
  • Maintain security documentation and support authorization and assessment activities as required.

DevSecOps and CI/CD

  • Utilize DevSecOps principles to support continuous integration, automated testing, and deployment pipelines.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, and Jira.
  • Support automated deployments and configuration management processes in controlled production environments.

Customer Engagement and Collaboration

  • Interface directly with customers and stakeholders to gather requirements, clarify expectations, and deliver solutions aligned to mission needs.
  • Demonstrate strong customer relationship skills while translating business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including UI/UX designers, QA personnel, system administrators, and cybersecurity staff.

Technical Leadership and Documentation

  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior developers and engineering staff.
  • Guide teams through complex technical challenges and promote best practices.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, operating instructions, and user guides.
  • Provide recommendations for technology modernization and system enhancements, including evaluation of emerging technologies and AI-enabled tools.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in scripting, software development, web page design, and hands-on web application development.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing C#.Net, HTML, XML, PERL, and/or Apache.
  • Experience with FrontPage, DreamWeaver, or related web development tools.
  • Strong customer relation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Relevant certification from a nationally recognized technical authority.
  • Must possess an IT-II Non-Critical Sensitive security clearance or Tier 3 (T3).
  • DoD 8570/8140 compliance with an approved baseline certification for IAT Level II roles supporting web development with administrative or privileged access.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Mastery-level experience with C#.Net and Oracle databases.
  • Experience developing secure web applications in DoD or other highly regulated environments.
  • Experience supporting mobile application development and secure backend services.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and modernization efforts.

Compensation:

In accordance with pay transparency law, the expected salary range for this position is $135,000– $180,000 annually. The actual compensation offered will be determined based on factors such as the candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location. We are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This posted range reflects our good faith estimate of the compensation we reasonably expect to offer for this role at the time of posting.
