The Director, Commercial Sector at C5MI drives strategic growth in commercial markets by identifying, shaping, and securing new business opportunities through expertise in industry, capability, and strong relationships. This role blends industry-standard sales/account methodologies with collaborative team engagement, ensuring high-quality pursuits and sustainable wins in the commercial sector. Responsibilities include advancing go-to-market by building executable sales strategies and account plans, developing relationships with key commercial clients and partners, managing solution and channel partnerships, conducting detailed opportunity assessments, and providing expert guidance on best practices that produce high win rates. Hitting C5MIs revenue targets will require not just strong selling, but also clarity in the sales processes, accuracy in forecasting, and discipline in execution.
The Director, Commercial Sector works closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the seamless transformation of opportunities across the Lead to Contract lifecycle, ensuring exceptional client engagement, winning proposal preparation, and seamless hand-off’s to the PMO and Delivery Teams at contract award. This position will require travel 25-75%.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
· Monitor commercial market channels, industry events, and digital platforms for new business opportunities.
· Leverage relationships and strong industry knowledge to identify net new clients to C5MI and drive them up the maturity curve.
· Maintain and qualify pipeline using CRM tools and market intelligence platforms owning the E2E pursuit in CRM and boots on the ground with support from senior leadership.
· Prepare for and lead opportunity reviews and go/no-go decisions by developing a streamlined and efficient process.
Sales Strategy & Execution:
· Develop sales strategies and account plans aligned with C5MI’s commercial growth objectives being the face of C5MI to the commercial market and representing our brand.
· Conduct competitive analysis, client mapping, and win strategy development.
· Facilitate strategy sessions and team reviews to refine positioning and probability of win.
· Implement process and expertise across commercial pursuits, leveraging our experience in federal across the commercial market giving C5MI significant differentiation to grow.
· Provides senior leadership with clear direction on growth trajectory and opportunities within the commercial sector.
· This executive will optimize the new client acquisition process and build systems that will allow the company to scale quickly and efficiently aligned with C5MI targets and company values.
Client & Partner Engagement:
· Build relationships with commercial clients, channel partners, and industry influencers.
· Lead negotiations for strategic partnerships, alliances, and reseller agreements.
· Shape opportunities through solutioning and client engagement.
Proposal Leadership:
· Coordinate with proposal team on development and delivery of RFx responses/proposals, manage value proposition for sales/account presentations, and ensure alignment with client needs and buying criteria.
· Support proposal reviews and contribute to pricing strategy and compliance with client requirements.
· Provide the voice of the client to the internal team ensuring proposals are well received and can delivery customer success fixing their problems and consistently meeting their needs.
Reporting & Forecasting:
· Track account plans, sales pipeline, conversion rates, revenue forecasts, and market share growth.
· Present opportunity status and strategy to leadership.
· Identify new market industries and leverage partnerships and industry knowledge to get C5MI in the door and gain lifecycle customers.
· Maintain visibility into budget, resources, and proposal timelines.
· Expertise in revenue ops: sales forecasting, pipeline metrics, and CRM optimization
· Passion for next level leadership strategies but also the less glamorous little things that go into building high performance teams.
Required/Desired Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree (Business, Engineering, or related); Master’s preferred.
· 10+ years in commercial accounts/business development, ideally in relevant industries (e.g., manufacturing, supply chain, technology, consulting).
· Deep understanding of commercial contracting, sales/account cycles, procurement processes, and industry-specific regulations.
· Sales/ Account Management certification or equivalent training/experience preferred.
Specific skills, knowledge, and abilities:
· Strong understanding of sales/account management principles and customer relationship management within the commercial sector.
· Ability and willingness to quickly and efficiently step into other areas of support within the growth organization.
· Ability to quickly interpret opportunities and identify if it is worth the level of effort to pursue or not.
